INTERVIEW Q&A
When did you first start to sing?
Probably when I was 4 or 5….we have a video of me singing “Billy
Jean” while getting into my grandparents’ pool around the
age of 7.
Do you have any formal singing training?
Not really…..just singing in choirs in high school and glee club
in college.
What other talents do you have?
I love playing sports….basketball, football, baseball….but
my real talent is foosball. I can suck the sides of my stomach in so that
it sorta looks like an alien. And I play the guitar too….but not
as well as I suck my stomach in.
If you don’t make it on AMERICAN IDOL, what will you do?
If I don’t make the final 12, I’d love to continue to pursue
the entertainment industry whether it be through performance or business
behind the scenes.
What are your personal goals in life?
To someday be the best husband and father the world has ever seen.
What album would your friends be surprised you own?
Hanson – “Mmm Bop.” Okay, listen…it was $1!
What is the first CD you ever bought?
Michael W. Smith “Picture Perfect.”
What is in your CD player right now?
A sweet U2 mix.
Who is your AMERICAN IDOL?
My grandpa…he’s the most amazing servant to others…a
strong man who loves gently.
What is your favorite type of music?
Anything with a good melody I can harmonize with.
What is your favorite song to sing?
“If I Could Only See You Now” – by Me.
Favorite male pop artist?
I don’t really have a favorite.
Favorite female pop artist?
Don’t really have a favorite here either.
Favorite album of all time?
Shane & Shane – “Psalms.”
Who in the music world do you think your style is most like?
Maybe Pat McGee? I don’t know.
Most embarrassing moment?
I went to a Sorority dance with a gal I had a crush on my sophomore year.
I decided to be a little goofy, and started dancing a little to be funny….just
my luck, I stepped onto a slick part of the dance floor and the next thing
I knew, I was airborne. I thudded on the floor in a muddy puddle from
snow that had been tracked in. I get up and realize EVERYONE is staring
at me...not the way to impress a girl.
If you couldn’t sing, which talent would you most like to have?
If I couldn’t sing, I’d love to be able to dunk a basketball…..it’s
been a dream of mine since elementary school.
What has been your proudest moment in life so far?
My proudest moment in life so far was when I called up Natalie out of
the blue and asked her on a date. I had to call the operator to get it
cause because the last interaction I had with her was almost a year prior,
and she didn’t even remember it. The most guts I’ve ever had
in my life!
What is your definition of an AMERICAN IDOL?
For this show, it’s the performer who reaches the hearts of the
nation…and moves them to pick up the phone and vote. But truly,
an American Idol is someone who represents the best in this country…freedom,
hope, love, grace, mercy, justice.
Why do you want to be an AMERICAN IDOL?
I want to be an American Idol because I want to be a voice that reaches
the world, a platform that can be used to truly make a difference…and
I need a real job.
Who is your favorite judge and why?
Paula…cause she wears her heart on her sleeve.
Who is your least favorite judge and why?
The guest judges…they are ALWAYS too nice.
What advice do you have for other hopefuls?
The key is to come alive on stage…be yourself, sing with your voice,
and know that you can. Don’t compare yourself to others…they
can’t sing your voice as well as you can so don’t try to sing
anything else.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I want to write a book for teens about the realities of life that doesn’t
hold back any punches with the goal of giving teens purpose, direction,
and meaning…too many regrets and too much pain come from the teenage
years…hopefully I’ll write it soon!
