When did you first start to sing?
Before I could speak. (hey, I know it sounds unlikely, but it’s
in the baby photos!)
Do you have any formal singing training?
Yes. I have participated in choirs since elementary school but I’ve
also received private lessons at the following times: Summer ’95
was accepted to Northwestern’s National High School Music Institute
for Voice (private lessons given). Winter ’96 received private lessons
to prepare for college auditions.
What other talents do you have?
I played the piano for 8 years and the violin for three, I am very artistic,
and I have a good ear for languages. I’m also good at relating to
people.
If you don’t make it on AMERICAN IDOL, what will you do?
I will get my masters degree and become a nurse practitioner somewhere
in California.
What are your personal goals in life?
To connect with people, live passionately, and be happy.
What album would your friends be surprised you own?
Cecilia Bartoli’s “If You Love Me.” (18th Century Italian
Arias)
What is the first CD you ever bought?
Boyz II Men “Coolihighharmony.”
What is in your CD player right now?
Chaka Khan’s “Epiphany,” Alicia Keys’ “Diary
of Alicia Keys,” a mix, and Handel’s Messiah.
Who is your AMERICAN IDOL?
My mom.
What is your favorite type of music?
R&B
What is your favorite song to sing?
There are just WAY too many to choose from; it changes every week and
depends on my mood.
Favorite male pop artist?
Stevie Wonder.
Favorite female pop artist?
Mary J. Blige.
Favorite album of all time?
Don’t have one.
Who in the music world do you think your style is most like?
I have elements of many artists but I also bring my own flavor.
Most embarrassing moment?
I have a new one every day.
If you couldn’t sing, which talent would you most like to have?
Playing the piano. I’m kicking myself for ever having given it up!
What has been your proudest moment in life so far?
When I was accepted to Northwestern University.
What is your definition of an AMERICAN IDOL?
A talented role-model.
Why do you want to be an AMERICAN IDOL?
Because I love to sing, perform, and relate to people through music.
Who is your favorite judge and why?
Simon, because he’s witty, entertaining, and “bloody”
honest!!
Who is your least favorite judge and why?
They all bring something to the table.
What advice do you have for other hopefuls?
Always sing for the love of singing.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
That I’m constantly laughing at myself and that I still sleep with
a blankie.
